It all started with the invitation of Sir James Brooke to Dewa Singh Akhara to maintain law and order in Sarawak in the 1860s. Dewa Singh Akhara led the first batch of 13 Sikhs to Kuching. The first Gurdwara Sahib Temple was built in 1912 as the populations of Sikhs grew.
